We expect everyone to follow our rules and guidelines to keep the Epic Games ecosystem safe and fun for everyone. We take action when our Community Rules are violated and encourage our community to report potential violations.
My account was sanctioned. What can I do?
You have the ability to review and appeal sanctions on your account. You can submit one appeal per eligible sanction.
What is a sanction?
A sanction is when your account is actioned due to a violation of at least one of Epic’s rules, or a violation of law, with consequences that vary depending on the severity of the violation and the number of previous sanctions you’ve had. Sanctions can be temporary or permanent, and we will inform you of the duration and type of sanction that you have received.
Sanctions can include:
-
Warning Message: You will receive a warning to remind you of our rules and to curb future rule-violating behavior.
-
Social Ban: You will temporarily or permanently lose access to voice and text chat, depending on the severity of the violation.
-
Product Ban: You will temporarily or permanently lose access to a specific game or service, including virtual items, account balances, or other items that you may have earned or purchased, depending on the severity of the violation. If you have multiple accounts, we may take action against all of your accounts.
-
Account Ban: Your Epic account will be disabled and you will permanently lose all rights to games, virtual items, account balances, or other items that you may have earned or purchased. If you have multiple accounts, we may take action against all of your accounts.
-
Matchmaking Ban (Fortnite): You will be blocked from entering any experience in Fortnite including UEFN playtesting.
-
World Lock (LEGO Fortnite): All players, including the world owner, will be prevented from accessing a locked world.
-
Multiplayer Ban (LEGO Fortnite): Other players will be prevented from accessing your world. Only the world owner will be able to enter the world in order to correct the violative content.
What is an appeal?
The process consists of three phases:
-
Submission: By requesting an appeal, you initiate the process.
-
Review: Your appeal will be sent to Epic Games for review by a human moderator. In some cases the team will contact you for additional information.
-
Decision: Following our review, we will make a decision regarding your appeal. You will be notified of the outcome through email and will be able to follow the status of your appeal on this page. A moderation decision will be upheld if the original sanction was appropriately applied, lifted if the sanction imposed was inaccurately applied, or modified if during the review a more suitable sanction is identified for the violation that occurred.
When can you appeal a sanction decision?
If you receive a sanction decision and believe we made a mistake, you are allowed to submit one appeal for each eligible sanction decision. If you already submitted an appeal for a sanction, you won’t be able to submit another one. Sanctions applied after a modification of a previous sanction can’t be appealed.
If you report potentially illegal or inappropriate content you can appeal the outcome of Epic’s decision. You can submit one appeal for each report.
Epic will retain evidence and information related to sanctions for audit and review purposes and to comply with legal obligations.
What happens with my sanction after it’s reviewed?
After review by a human moderator, your sanction will be either:
-
Upheld if the sanction was appropriately applied.
-
Lifted if the sanction imposed on your account was inaccurately applied.
-
Modified if we found that the original sanction was incorrect and a modified sanction is considered more suitable for the violation that occurred.
What is the reporting and review process for LEGO Fortnite?
If our team of moderators determines that a world violates our rules, the world owner will go through the following process (note: in severe cases, we’ll lock the world so nobody, including the world owner, will be able to access it to make corrections, and we’ll ban the offending player from our ecosystem):
-
Fix: The world owner navigates to the coordinates in the sanction notice and corrects the violative content from the restricted world.
-
Submission: Once the content is corrected, the world owner can request a review.
-
Review: The world owner’s request will be sent to Epic for review by a human moderator. In some cases the team will contact the world owner for additional information.
-
Decision: Following our review, Epic’s moderators will make a decision regarding the world owner’s request. The world owner will be notified of the outcome through email and will be able to follow the status of the review on this page. The sanction will be lifted if the violative content was corrected, upheld if the violative content was not corrected, or modified if during the review a more suitable sanction is identified.
