Our Parental Controls let you choose how your child plays and interacts with others across Epic’s games and experiences, including Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys. These tools let you make informed decisions about what is right for your family and manage access to social features such as voice and text chat, purchasing permissions, and more.
Manage Parental Controls
After you sign into your child’s Epic Games account using the Epic Account Portal, you can set or modify your younger player’s Parental Controls and you can sign up to receive daily email reports when changes are made to your child’s Epic account. Settings can also be modified in Fortnite. Additionally, there are Parental Controls available on gaming platforms such as PlayStation®, Xbox, Nintendo Switch™, and mobile devices, and we provide information below on how to manage platform-level settings.
Learn more about Parental Controls with these helpful guides.
Purchasing Settings
Set permissions to help prevent unauthorized payments while using Epic Games payment services.
Require a PIN for Epic Games Payments
This setting requires your Parental Controls PIN to be entered to authorize real money purchases using Epic payment.
Setting off: Your child will be able to complete payments without a PIN.
Setting on: Your Parental Controls PIN will be required to complete payments using Epic payment. This setting does not affect payments made on gaming platforms such as PlayStation®, Steam, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch™, nor does it affect purchases made with in-game currencies, such as V-Bucks in Fortnite.
Note: If your child indicates they are under the age of 13, a daily spending limit of $100 will be applied to their account. Any purchases above the daily spending limit will require that a parent or guardian’s Parental Controls PIN is entered to override the limit and complete the purchase.
The $100 spending limit will apply to the daily total purchases made using Epic Games payment, including purchases in Fortnite, Rocket League, Fall Guys and the Epic Games Store. This limit will not be applied to payments made on gaming platforms such as PlayStation®, Steam, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch™, and does not affect purchases made with in-game currencies, such as V-Bucks in Fortnite.
Age-Rating Restrictions
Manage which experiences your child can access in Fortnite, and which games your child can access in the Epic Games Store based on age ratings.
Fortnite Content Ratings
Every experience in Fortnite has its own rating and you can choose to restrict your child’s access to experiences above a certain rating. Your Parental Controls PIN will be required to unlock experiences for your child that are rated above your age-rating setting.
Rating systems vary by geographical region. An example of age rating limits are listed below:
For example, if you set your rating to Everyone 10+, you will be required to enter your Parental Controls PIN to unlock Teen experiences. If you set your rating to Teen, you won’t need to enter your PIN, all experiences in Fortnite will be accessible to your child.
Learn more about IARC Ratings in Fortnite here.
Allow Creative Mode and Unreal Editor for Fortnite
Players can use Fortnite Creative and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) to design and publish experiences in Fortnite. You can choose to restrict your child’s access to these toolsets.
Setting off: Your child cannot design games and experiences in Fortnite, and cannot join their friends while they design their own experiences.
Setting on: Your child can design games and experiences in Fortnite, and can join their friends while they design their own experiences.
Note: While designing a Fortnite experience, players can interact with content that has not been submitted to Fortnite Publishing for moderation and thus has not been rated. Players may also create content, including text, which may be visible to their collaborators.

Epic Games Store and Fab
You can choose the ratings for new games your child can buy or download in the Epic Games Store, and content they can view and acquire on Fab. In the Epic Games Store, if your child tries to buy or download a new game above your chosen rating, your Parental Controls PIN will be required.
Rating systems vary by geographical region. Some examples of age rating limits are listed below:
- Everyone
- Everyone 10+
- Teen
- Mature
- Adults Only
- Unrated
For example, if you select Everyone 10+, your child would not be able to get new games rated Teen without entering your PIN. Epic considers some content on Fab to be Mature. Your child will not be able to access Mature content on Fab unless you select ‘Unrated.’
Note: If you set your Epic Games Store content ratings to “Everyone” or “Everyone 10+”, your child will be able to download Fortnite from the Epic Games Store but they will only be able to access islands within your ratings threshold and not islands rated “Teen” like Fortnite Battle Royale. See the section above for more details on Fortnite Content Settings.
Account Connection Controls
Choose if you want to provide parental approval each time your child uses ‘Sign in with Epic’ for third-party games outside the Epic Games Store.
‘Sign in with Epic’ Settings
You can require parental consent for each non-Epic game or site to which your child attempts to log in or connect using their Epic Account, or enable the ‘Sign in with Epic’ single sign on solution (SSO).
Sign In With Epic is a single sign on (SSO) solution that allows your child to use their Epic account to sign in to or connect external accounts and games from other companies outside the Epic Games Store.
Players can use Sign In With Epic to access games or connect to platforms that aren’t operated by Epic. When using Sign In With Epic, players share account information including their Epic ID and Display Name, connected gaming account names, their online presence, and their Epic friends list. Epic may receive similar account information from the connected site or platform.
Enable Sign in With Epic for your child
Setting off: You will be asked to approve each non-Epic game or site to which your child attempts to log in or connect using their Epic Account.
Setting on: Your child will be able to log in and connect to any non-Epic game or site that uses Sign In with Epic, including games and platforms outside of the Epic Games Store.
Note: this control is only visible for certain accounts depending on information you or a member of your family provided when signing up for or completing verified parental consent for an Epic account.
Time Limit Controls & Time Reports
Set time limits and view the total time your child spends in Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) each week. Choose if you want to receive email reports for your child’s time spent in Fortnite and UEFN.
Time Limit Controls
Set limits for the total time your child spends in Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
With Time Limit Controls, you will have the option to:
- Limit the total amount of time your child can play per day.
- Choose specific time windows when your child can play each day, and set time limits within that window.
If you set up a time limit, your child will begin seeing in-game notifications when they have 30 minutes left in Fortnite and UEFN. Once your child reaches their limit, they will not be able to use Fortnite or UEFN until the next day or until a new window begins, unless you choose to add more time.
Time Limit Controls work across consoles and devices. As long as a player is using the same account across devices, the limit you set will be in effect for Fortnite and UEFN no matter where your child plays or creates.
Note: Limits set for your device or console operate independently of your Time Limit Controls, and may further limit allowed time on that device.
Request for More Time
Choose whether to allow your child to request more time as they approach their time limit in Fortnite.
Setting off: Your child will not be allowed to request more time.
Setting on: Your child will be allowed to request more time from within Fortnite.
If you have allowed your child to request more time, and they have 30 minutes or less left in their window, your child can request more time from within Fortnite. Their request will send you an email with a link where you can add more time for that day if you choose. You can also add more time (even if you haven’t enabled requests for more time) from inside Fortnite by selecting “Time Limits & Reports” from the main menu in the Sidebar and choosing “Add More Time.” Once you input your Parental Controls PIN code, you can select the desired increment of time to add. Time granted will be effective immediately.
Time Reports
View how much time your child spends in Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) each week.
Setting off: You will not see how much time your child spends in Fortnite and UEFN.
Setting on: You will see a dashboard which provides a daily breakdown of how much total time your child spends in Fortnite and UEFN and indicates when you have granted extra time for your child.
After you have turned Time Reports On, whenever you go back to the Account Portal, you will be able to see up to four weeks of activity (or less if you haven’t had Time Reports enabled for that long).
Time Reports Email
If Time Reports are On, you can sign up to receive a weekly email report summarizing your child’s time spent in Fortnite and UEFN.
Setting off: You won't receive a weekly report.
Setting on: You will receive a weekly report summarizing your child’s time in Fortnite and UEFN.
Gaming Platform Settings
Epic’s Parental Controls apply to the features in games and experiences owned and operated by Epic Games, including Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys, regardless of the platform they’re being played on.
Platform-Level Settings
If you turn off voice chat in one of Epic’s games, your child may still be able to access voice chat using the chat system built into your console. It’s important to review platform-level settings whether you’re playing on PlayStation®, Xbox, Nintendo Switch™, Windows 10, iOS, or Google Play.
Information on each platform’s specific Parental Controls and how to set them up is provided below.
Social Permissions
Manage your child’s online social interactions across Epic’s experiences and games by setting permissions for friend requests, voice and text chat, and mature language filtering. Parents are encouraged to review platform-level social settings as well.
Epic Voice Chat Permission
Manage who your child is able to speak with using Epic voice chat.
You can choose to allow your child to speak with:
If your child is under 10 years old, the maximum voice and text chat permission will be “Friends Only.” When your child turns 10, you will be able to choose additional voice and text chat options. If your child is under 13, the maximum voice and text chat permission will be “Friends & Teammates." When your child turns 13, you will be able to choose additional voice and text chat options. Turning on voice chat also turns on voice reporting.
About Voice Reporting
When voice chat is on, voice reporting stores voice chat audio on each participant’s device on a rolling five-minute basis, which will be sent to Epic Games only if a participant reports a violation. Voice reporting is usually on, except in parties formed among friends where all players prefer voice reporting off. Players can see if voice reporting is currently on or off in the Sidebar. Voice reporting is always on for players under 18.
To learn more about voice reporting, see the Frequently Asked Questions.
Epic Text Chat Permission
Manage who your child can chat with using Epic text chat.
You can choose to allow your child to text chat with:
If your child is under 10 years old, the maximum text and voice chat permission will be “Friends Only.” When your child turns 10, you will be able to choose additional text and voice chat options. If your child is under 13, the maximum text and voice chat permission will be “Friends & Teammates." When your child turns 13, you will be able to choose additional text and voice chat options.
Note: Selecting "Nobody" still allows players to use messages from a list of standard in-game safe phrases (e.g. “Nice one!”), if supported. If a selected setting is not yet supported by a game or service, a more restrictive setting is applied.
About Text Reporting
If text chat is on and text reporting is enabled, you can report the contents of your conversation to Epic for review. Submitting a report uploads the latest reportable text chat messages that you’ve sent and received in the channel you are reporting, and sends them to Epic moderators for review. You can see if text reporting is currently on or off in the text input field before typing a message. Text reporting is always on for players under the age of 18.
To learn more about text reporting, see the Frequently Asked Questions.
Filter Mature Language
You can filter out mature language such as profanity in Fortnite’s text chat. Note: the mature language setting only applies to Fortnite.
Filter off: Text chat won’t be filtered for mature language.
Filter on: Mature language in text chat will be filtered and replaced with heart symbols.
The mature language filter will always be on for players under 13 in all text chats and always on for all players in Game Channels, which are island-specific channels where players can chat with other players in the same experience.
Require a PIN to Add Friends
Choose to require your Parental Controls PIN to be entered for your child to send or accept Epic friend requests.
Setting off: Your child can send or accept friend requests themselves.
Setting on: Each time your child tries to send or accept an Epic friend request, you will need to enter your PIN.
Note: Friends requests are not permitted for Rocket League Sideswipe since it doesn’t yet support this setting. This setting doesn’t affect platform-wide friends systems on gaming platforms such as PlayStation®, Steam, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch™.
